What's Happening: August 31st - September 4th, 2009 

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Resource Center office at Colorado State University distributes this e-newsletter for GLBT individuals and allies of our campus and surrounding GLBT communities. E-Newsletter items are provided for informational purposes only, and do not necessarily represent the views of the GLBT Resource Center or its employees, nor do they necessarily represent the views of the students, staff, faculty, or administration of Colorado State University.

If you are interested  in posting brief announcements; please submit items via e-mail to glbt_studentservices@mail.colostate.edu and type Whats Happening in the subject line by 5pm on Thursdays for publication in the following week's newsletter.  In most instances, brief announcements will be limited to no more than six lines, which contain the event specifics (date, time, and place), brief description, and contact information.  We reserve the right to edit all announcements for clarity and space.

GLBT Resource Center Open House!

Date & Time: Thursday, September 3rd, 5:00 p.m. -- 8:30 p.m.
Location: Room 174, Lory Student Center

Please join us for our annual Fall semester kick-off! Share conversation with new friends, and connect with old friends. Grab some free food, and meet our director. Hear about what is coming up this semester.

Lambda Center Young Adult Group

Date & Time: Thursday, Spetmeber 3rd , @ 5:00p.m.
Location: Lambda Community Center, 212 South Mason Street

Are you a young adult, aged 18 to 29? Seeking community in Fort Collins and northern Colorado? Meet new people, learn new things, and share what you know!

Call for Artists!

Colorado Anti-Violence Program is looking for those skilled with a brush to assist in painting a mural to celebrate the anniversary of COAVP in December.  The mural will be painted on a large canvas.  Those interested should provide a cover letter with details of your style (if any).  Contact: Matthew Thompson at matthew_thompson@live.com or 970.690.3189 for more info or to volunteer your skills and time.

APACC Open House

Date: Wednesday, September 2nd, 2:00pm -- 9:00pm

Asian/Pacific American Cultural Center invites you to our Open House. Learn about the programs and services our office will provide for the 2009 -- 2010 school year! We hope to see you there!

El Centro Open House
Date: Thursday September 3rd 4:00 - 8:00pm
Location: El Centro Room 178 Lory Student Center

Come celebrate another year with El Centro�s Open House from 4:00pm-8:00pm Thursday, September 3rd in room 178 of the Lory Student Center.  Make connections, Meet new people, and Explore their office and learn about other resources on campus!

 A.S.A.P. Presents  Star Trek
Location: Lory Student Center Theater
Date: Thursday September 3rd at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

There will be two showings of Star Trek, one at 5 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $4. Complimentary beverage, Subway sandwich, and popcorn with the purchase of a ticket.

- Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for the first showing

- Doors open at 7 p.m. for the second showing

Grill The Buffs Student Rally
Date: Friday, September 4, 2009, 11:00 AM
Location: Lory Student Center Plaza

Students and the campus community are invited to join coaches, players, CAM and the cheerleaders to kick-off the school year and show your Ram Pride in preparation for the battle against the CU Buffalos!

This is a pep rally for the CSU vs. CU rivalry football game on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Prizes for how you dress to show your Ram Pride, so come dressed in your green and gold!

Join us and help kick-off the school year and show your Ram Pride.

Students will be treated to grilled buffalo burgers, chips and drinks available while supplies last, so get there fast!

Scholarships, Conferences, & Calls for Papers
4th Annual LGBT Symposium--Sexual Identities: They Ain't What They Used To Be!
Date: Friday & Saturday, March 5 & 6, 2010 (Deadline for papers: October 15, 2009)
Location: Hofstra Cultural Center, New York

The Hofstra Cultural Center and the Hofstra University LGBT Studies Program are accepting topics of a political, sociological, developmental and psychological, anthropological, pedagogical, or historical nature, as well as commentary on literature and cinematic representations of the shifting nature of the gay "community."

Proposals may be e-mailed to Judith S. Kaufman and David A. Powell @ judith.s.kaufman@hofstra.edu and david.powell@hofstra.edu.  Decisions will be rendered by mid-December.  Presentations limited to 20 min--please indicate whether you require any technological support.
